Welcome to new parents

As a new parent or carer you will have lots of questions and maybe some worries. At Lewisham Family Hubs we provide sessions, courses and workshops in our Hubs, to help and support you on your journey through parenthood. You will also meet other new parents in your local area.

The Hubs are welcoming and friendly places to get advice, support and guidance for you and your children, and to meet up with other local families in your area.

Lewisham's Family Hubs bring together the advice and support a family may need, from pregnancy through to young people turning 19 (or 25 if they SEND). You can access support from professionals such as early years practitioners, health visitors, midwives, speech and language therapists and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) advisors.

Baby Stay & Play

At our drop in Baby Stay & Play sessions we bring families together to share ideas, talk about the challenges of being a parent, support mental and emotional wellbeing using Five to Thrive; the five activities that support healthy brain development.  

The sessions are free, flexible, and child led, with time each week to relax and connect with others. 

Each week families will take part in fun activities showing how the very simplest activities support physical and mental wellbeing development, these include:

  • Tummy Time - a baby’s first experience of exercise Outdoor Learning – The Sky is the Limit!!
  • Singing – a great way to interact with each other
  • Story Telling – Reading is a great way to talk to each other.

Owl Babies Course

During this course we share ideas, talk about the challenges of being a parent, support mental and emotional wellbeing using Five to Thrive, Nature and the outdoor environment. It is a chance to find out how the great outdoors supports and enhances healthy brain development. Each session will focus on one of the Five to Thrive activities and offer the opportunity to experience together the awe and wonder of connecting with Nature. There will be time each week to relax and connect with others.

The very earliest experiences shape a baby’s brain so join us and be part of your baby’s amazing journey learning about the restorative power of Nature.

Baby Massage

Our baby massage courses aim to support your bond with your baby through easy to learn, gentle and positive movements whilst enjoying relaxing and special one to one time together.

Triple P for Babies

Triple P for Baby programme aims to prepare parents for a positive transition to parenthood and the first year with baby, promoting sensitive and responsive care in the perinatal period.

Parents actively participate in a range of exercises to learn strategies to develop a positive relationship with their baby, promote their baby’s development and help teach their baby new skills and behaviours

Our 6 week Triple P for Baby course supports your transition into parenthood and is suitable for expectant parents and those with a baby under 1.

Being a Parent

South London & Maudsley NHS Trust in partnership with Lewisham Council will be running ‘Being a Parent’ – a free 9 week group programme offered to parents/​carers of children aged from 2 to 11 years old.

The course is led by trained Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC) parent group leaders and aims to help children and families get the very best start in life by supporting parents/carers to manage their own and their child's feelings, communicate and interact positively with their child, use positive behaviour management strategies, and manage parental stress.
