Keeping Warm, Keeping Well

During colder months, families often face challenges related to living costs, heating bills, and keeping their homes warm.
Parents may worry about maintaining a comfortable temperature for their babies. The recommended room temperature for babies is 16-20°C, which can be difficult to achieve in winter.
You can find lots of Cost of Living information of the Lewisham Early Years Alliance website.

Keeping Warm

While it may be tempting to bundle a baby up for warmth, overheating increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Research indicates that it's safer for babies to be slightly cooler than too warm.
There are a number of things to consider for your baby and their sleep space during the colder months, The Lullaby Trust has lots of useful information and guidance on their website.

How to dress your newborn in winter

A good rule of thumb is to give your baby 1 extra layer of clothing than what you're wearing. For example, if you're in a t-shirt and jumper, dress them in a vest, sleepsuit and cardigan or jumper. If you feel chilly, your baby probably does too. For information about how to dress your baby at night go to NHS website.
