Being a Parent - A parenting programme for parents of children aged 2-11
Delivered by trained Parent Group Leaders from Empowering Parents Empowering Communities (EPEC), part of South London & Maudsley NHS Trust, in partnership with Lewisham.
What is the EPEC Being a Parent Course?
The Empowering Parents Empowering Communities (EPEC) Being a Parent course aims to help parents strengthen family relationships, build confidence, and develop practical strategies for managing everyday parenting challenges.
The course creates a safe and trusting group environment where parents feel encouraged, valued, and supported.
Within this space, parents are invited to explore and reflect on:
- Looking after yourself as a parent
- Recognising and managing your child's feelings
- Understanding children’s behaviour
- Developing positive and effective discipline strategies
Why is it different?
The Being a Parent Course is co-facilitated by trained parent volunteers who have completed the EPEC Parent Group Leader training. They guide you through this 9-week course, to understand the different aspects of Being a Parent.
Their lived experience, alongside their skills and training, helps to create engaging environments where parents can learn from both the facilitators and each other
The course begins with an Introduction Session (coffee morning),
giving you the opportunity to meet the facilitators, find out more about the programme, and decide if it’s right for you.
Who is the course for?
The Being a Parent Course is for parents in Lewisham of children between the ages of 2 to 11 years.
